Trump Hints at Rubio Becoming Cuba’s Future Leader

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has hinted at an unusual successor for Cuba’s leadership — his own secretary of state, Marco Rubio. On Sunday, Trump reshared an image from X that humorously suggested the top American diplomat could become president of the Caribbean nation.

His response on Truth Social was brief but approving: “Sounds good to me!”

In a subsequent post, Trump accused Cuba of surviving economically through oil revenues supplied by Venezuela.

He referenced recent events in which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was reportedly seized by US special forces after months of mounting pressure from Washington. Following the raid, Trump demanded “total access” to Venezuela’s oil reserves.

During the operation, several Cubans serving in Maduro’s personal security detail were killed.

Trump further asserted on Truth Social that “most of those Cubans are DEAD” and declared that the United States would now “protect” Venezuela.

He urged Havana to “make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE,” signaling a hardline stance toward Cuba’s government.

Hours later, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel condemned Washington’s posture, accusing the US of “attacking” Cuba for more than six decades.

He argued that “those who turn everything into a business, even human lives, have no moral authority to point fingers at Cuba on anything, absolutely anything,” in a statement posted on X.
